An experience as told by one of our many satisfied customers!
It was Tuesday night bowling. We were all told to come early and with a healthy appetite. The week before, we were told by the bowling alley manager that in thanks for our league support for over a year, we were being treated to a very special dinner. When I arrived at the bowling alley, I found Gwynn, owner of Aunt Willa's Pizza on Wheels, busily preparing pizzas in his mobile pizza kitchen. There were about 10 finished pizzas waiting to be cooked & more being prepared as I watched. The ovens in the back of the mobile kitchen were already getting hot and Gwynn was making friendly chat to intrigued bowlers as they paused momentarily to watch him prepare our special treat. This was a new experience for me as the only time I have ever seen someone cutting fresh vegetables or stretching pizza dough was in my own kitchen. I have been a little disappointed since I had not eaten a pizza that I really enjoyed for over 2 years-since I returned to California.
I walked into the Bowling Alley to find the buffet table covered and neatly arranged with 12 empty pizza pans anxiously awaiting a pizza to match the place card in front of it. Fifteen minutes later the pizzas started to arrive steaming hot out of the oven, about 2 every few minutes. All 11 pizzas listed on the menu were presented to us. Of these, I had 6 pieces as follows: First, I had the children's choice and my favorite, (pepperoni and cheese) .The crust was light, almost air in the middle, with a thin browned surface possibly done with a touch of olive oil but cooked hot so it supported the pie without grease or folding. It brought back memories of an old Greek restaurant, so I over salted it and another slice of the same to my preference. Then I tried Grandma's healthy chicken. It was very good and the crust was also the same light crust as before. Next was the Family Islander-quite honestly the best Hawaiian pizza ever.It is made with Canadian bacon instead of ham -it's bound to catch your attention. I am sure the meat lovers in your group will find the outrageous combo makes the grade. I ate 2 pieces. Sorry, not being a vegetarian, I didn't sample the Garden Harvest. All in all I am sure you and your guests will be thrilled with the excellent quality pizza prepared and baked right at your function by Gwynn and all his friendly staff. |
